Ravi Shankar Shastri is an Indian cricket coach, former commentator, cricketer and current head coach of the Indian national cricket team. As a player, he played for India’s national cricket team in both Tests and ODIs between 1981 and 1992.
In his childhood, Ravi Shastri had most of the goods to play, and he would stop the game if he was out in any game, then all the friends would listen to him and give him a chance. Even in cricket, when he was out, he would run away with the bat. Then his friends used to convince him from home that let’s go and bat once. When he grew up, he came to know that losing and winning is part of the game.
Education
Ravi Shastri studied at Don Bosco High School, Matunga. The following year Don Bosco, under Shastri’s captaincy, won the Giles Shield in 1977, the first time in the school’s history. His coach in school B.D. Desai was once a Tata and Dadar Union player.
In his final year in junior college, he was selected to represent Bombay in the Ranji Trophy. At the age of 17 and 292 days, he was the youngest cricketer to play for Bombay at that time.

Career
Shastri emerged as a new batsman from the tenth position in the batting order within eighteen months of his Test debut on an opening day.
Shastri was forced to open against England in 1982 at the Oval. He separated himself by scoring 66 runs in that match. In four of the Tests played in Pakistan, he suffered an injury to his hand. Forced to reopen in the final Test in Karachi, he scored his maiden Test century against the fast bowling of Imran Khan.
In October 1984, India visited Pakistan for the third time in six years. He was saved by a 126-wicket fifth-wicket partnership between Lahore Test Shastri and Mohinder Amarnath. Shastri scored 71, while Amarnath made 101 *. Shastri was even more successful in the next Test in Faisalabad where he scored 139 runs. The last Test and the remainder of the tour were cancelled due to the assassination of Indira Gandhi.
He led Young India in 1984 in Zimbabwe. England’s first defeat in a tour match in India for fifty years against the English side of the tour in November.
Ravi Shastri started opening innings regularly in ODIs. He scored 102 against Australia in October. India’s second century in ODI. Shastri stood for Gavaskar in two matches of the 1983 World Cup opening with Srikanth.
The third time he opened was in Cuttack, and he set a world record of 188 for the first wicket.
Ravi Shastri retired at the age of 31 due to a knee injury, and he made his debut as a TV commentator with the World Masters tournament in Mumbai in March 1995.
Married Life
In the late 1990s, Ravi Shastri married Ritu Singh. He debuted as a commentator on TV. In 2003, he became a partner in Shodiff Worldwide, a celebrity management company. Ravi Shastri’s daughter was born in 2008 at the age of 46.

Shastri was still in college when he received SOS from the Indian team in New Zealand. He arrived in Wellington a day before the first Test and took three wickets in each innings.
